Thermal spraying is a technology that improves or restores the surface of a solid material. The process involves adding a metal layer onto materials and components, which provides resistance to wear, erosion, corrosion, abrasion, and heat. The new layer can be anywhere from .001 to .500 inches.
Thermal Spraying advantages:
-fast turnaround
-considerable cost savings (compared to part replication)
-extended life of equipment
-reduced downtime
-the added material can be a harder composition than the substrate material, reducing the likelihood of future wear and downtime
Compared to typical welding processes, thermal spraying does not cause excessive substrate thermal temperatures. Making this process favorable for ensuring no shaft deflection during repairs nor change of substrate's original integrity.
